Our volunteer programme
People with convictions and their family members are at the heart of Next Chapter Scotland as staff, trustees and volunteers. Lived experience shapes what we do and how we do it.
We value volunteers because they help us reach more people and because volunteering can be a powerful step after a conviction rebuilding confidence, skills and purpose on the way to stable employment.
We actively welcome volunteers who have a criminal record. Not everyone on our team has a conviction but for some roles, like contributing to our helpline and lived experience projects, personal insight is essential.
What volunteers do
Volunteers help with information and advocacy, research and report prep, digital content, training support and admin tasks that keep our services running.
Volunteering during times of transition including after prison can help people grow in confidence, learn new skills and contribute to change by supporting others.
Pro-bono support
If you have professional skills you can offer pro-bono, we would love to hear from you.
Examples include:
- Legal guidance clinics for our helpline
- Training delivery for staff and volunteers
- Graphic design or layout for reports and materials
- Print support for outreach resources
- Donated equipment to expand access
- Bookkeeping
To express interest in volunteering or pro-bono support, please use the contact form on our website or email info@nextchapterscotland.org.uk and include “Volunteering” or “Pro-bono” in the subject line.
